1. What kind of services does the Stormwater Management Division provide?: The division works to build new stormwater runoff controls to reduce flooding; maintains existing stormwater facilities (such as public ponds, ditches and culverts); and reviews new development to be sure it complies with County standards.

2. What does the stormwater program do?: The stormwater program is charged with the maintenance and improvement of the County's stormwater systems located within the public rights of way. These systems consist of storm drains, catch basins, underground pipes, open channels, culverts and creeks.

3. What are the goals of Pasco County's stormwater program?: The stormwater program focuses on protecting citizens and property by reducing the potential for flooding. The program’s goals are also to protect the County’s waters from stormwater pollution and improve the County’s drainage system.

10. Why do I have to be pre-inspected if I have a FDEP permit?: FDEP is requesting the County to do pre-inspections.

11. Why does the County have to pre-inspect my construction site?: The county is required by FDEP to do pre-inspections. We report these pre-inspections in our annual report as part of the implementation of the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) program.

12. I want to request a construction pre-inspection.: Call Stormwater Management at (727) 834-3611 to schedule an inspection.

13. What do I need to have on site for a pre-inspection?: All your best management practices should be in place to assure that no pollutants leave the construction site. You must be in compliance with all conditions of the construction permit and also with your stormwater pollution prevention plan submitted to FDEP with your Notice of intent to start construction and DRD's approved plans.

14. Where does water pollution come from?: Water pollution is difficult to trace to a specific source, but some common pollutants include fertilizers, pesticides, pet wastes, sediments, oils, salts, trace metals and litter. Pollution can come from farms, yards, roofs, construction sites, automobiles, pets and people.

15. Does the County have an ordinance regarding illicit discharge?: Yes, the Stormwater Quality Section 902.1 ordinance.

16. Is there a fine for illicit discharges?: Yes, there is a fine. The fine is up to $500 per event per day. If you need additional information, call Stormwater Management at (727) 834-3611.

17. What is stormwater runoff?: Stormwater runoff is the water that flows off roofs, driveways, parking lots, streets, and other hard surfaces during rain storms. Rather than being absorbed into the ground, it pours into ditches, culverts, catch basins and storm sewers.

18. Why is stormwater runoff a problem?: Stormwater can carry harmful pollutants, cause flooding, destroy aquatic habitat, erode topsoil and stream banks.
